A slide-on dog tag doesn't hang from a ring — it threads onto the collar itself. The tag has two slots on the back: the collar strap passes through them, and the tag sits flat against the strap like it's part of the collar. No split ring, no S-hook, no dangling hardware. If you've only ever used traditional hanging tags, it's a small change in design that fixes almost everything owners complain about.
The biggest difference is that a slide-on tag can't fall off. Hanging tags are lost all the time — split rings work themselves open, S-hooks bend, and a tag that catches on a fence or a branch is gone for good. A slide-on tag is held by the collar strap itself, so there's nothing to open, bend, or snap. It also can't flip over, get chewed while dangling, or scratch up your floors and furniture — and because nothing swings, it's completely quiet (that's why every tag here is also part of our silent dog tags collection).
Attaching one takes about ten seconds, no tools and no rivets: unbuckle the collar, thread the strap through the two slots on the back of the tag, and buckle the collar back up. That's it. The same tag can be moved to a new collar anytime — just unthread it and re-thread it.
Each tag is laser-cut from stainless steel with your dog's info engraved permanently into the metal, and comes in three sizes for 5/8″, 3/4″, and 1″ flat collars.
Three steps: unbuckle the collar, slide the strap through the two slots on the back of the tag, and re-buckle. No rings, rivets, or tools needed.
No — this is the main reason owners switch. The tag is held in place by the collar strap itself, so unlike ring tags there's no clasp to open or snag. It only comes off when you unthread the collar.
They're made for flat collars (nylon webbing, flat leather, biothane) and come in three sizes: 5/8″ (1.6 cm), 3/4″ (1.9 cm), and 1″ (2.5 cm). Measure your collar and choose the matching size. They're not suited to rolled leather or chain collars, which can't pass through the slots.
Yes. The tag isn't fixed to any one collar — unthread it and slide it onto the new one. One tag can outlast several collars.
Hanging tags are easier to clip on in a hurry, but they jingle, snag, and get lost. Slide-on tags stay put, stay silent, and last as long as the engraving — which, on stainless steel, is effectively the life of the tag.
